Ecology, Taxonomy, Conservation, and Field-Based Learning
Third-year botany students from the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Botany and Plant Biotechnology recently participated in a five-day botanical excursion to Lapalala Wilderness School in the Waterberg region of Limpopo, from 31 August to 4 September 2026.
The excursion provided students with hands-on experience in plant identification, taxonomy, ecology, vegetation surveying, and field data analysis. The programme also focused on conservation and environmental education, with activities including alien plant control, ecosystem rehabilitation, Waterberg ecology, and discussions on conservation.
